Shaka Zulu is the largest London’s South African restaurant, situated in Camden, a district of north-west London. It is a two –level bar, club and restaurant in the Camden Stable Market, a huge space set on over 27000 sq, which is a really impressing surface for a restaurant.

Shaka Zulu, as its name tells us, is dedicated to Zulu king, Shaka kaSenzangakhona. He was one of the most influential and bravest rulers of the Zulu Kingdom, who united the Zulu tribes and their subgroups and began creating a nation that spread across the great territory of Southern Africa between the Phongolo and Umzimkhulu rivers, combating against the British forces. His glory is shown all over the restaurant, so, on the ground floor you will see the 60ft high warrior statues. The walls are covered by carved wooden murals, so the guests can enjoy the authentic South African ambient. You will feel like being in some kind of safari. For its amazing decoration, Shaka Zulu won the prestigious prize of “best interior design” at the London Club and Bar Awards 2012. It is a mix between the South African simple wooden style, but also the luxury and best champagnes, such as Laurent-Perrier, Veuve Clicquot, Dom Perignon and Bollinger. The restaurant is located at the lower floor, with the capacity of 850 people, offering different dishes from all parts of South Africa, prepared on open flame grills. The Head Chef, Stephen Boucher, created a traditional menu, presenting to the people of London and to the tourists, the originality of his homeland South African cuisine, therefore you can have the rare possibility to taste meats such as Namibian zebra, cudi, ostrich and springbok.
Some amazing and weird dishes from the Shaka Zulu’s menu are: Crocodile Burger, Chickpea Curry, Avocado Maki, etc. There is also so called Young warriors menu, which offers a fixed menu, composted by 4 mains, one aperitif drink and dessert. Come to taste it! You will taste an exotic food served throughout the night, ranging from a small platter to a full meal.

At the mezzanine floor are situated the bar and the champagne and cocktail lounge, where you can enjoy great aperitif, drinks and have panoramic views over both floors, before you move to the restaurant. You can also taste some casual, easy dishes at the bar.

It is possible to book drinking tables in advance.
Shaka Zulu doesn’t offer only the most delicious food and the best bubbles, but offers also fantastic party moments in the King’s Club during the weekends, with DJs who play the best of house, funky house, commercial rnb, reggaeton, club classics, and also with live music played by diverse bands. Some of the events you can attend are: The Brum Takeover by Lotto Boyz, given that Shaka Zulu continue to bring the best artist, then Takeover party on Fridays, with some of the best DJs, and the Twisted Circus on Saturdays, which is a huge national party, with amazing performances that take a place 15 minutes 3 times during night.

Lots of celebrities come to Shaka Zulu to enjoy its authentic atmosphere, among them also the members of the Royal Zulu family. Famous foreigners as musicians, actors, artists, super stars, such as Nichole Scherzinger, Natalie Anderson, Jamelie, Michelle Keegan, Liz McClarnon, Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams, Preeya Kalidas, Official Royston, Sophie Anderton, Stephanie Pratt, Sarah Manners, Jenny Frost, Imogen Thomas, Alex Reid, Jade Enew, Nicky Norwood, and more others, while Official Royston, Alex Reid, Michelle Keegan and several other celebrities chose this magical place also for celebrating their birthday parties. Amy Winehouse used to have dinners here.

If you want to escape from London’s raining evenings and feel a bit of South African sun, heat and warm rhythm and atmosphere, do not miss this place, come to Shaka Zulu, taste the best exotic dishes and dedicate some beautiful moments in honour of the great king Shaka Zulu!

THE DRESS CODE AT SHAKA ZULU

Dress codes can be confusing, so let us help you with our detailed, visual guides!

What is recommended:
The recommended look is the best one not just to get you in, but to make you feel at home.

Most people at Shaka Zulu choose to dress smart casual. Generally the men wear button down shirts without a tie, blue or black jeans or khakis, black or brown belts and shoes in leather (or faux leather) and no jewellery.

Generally the women wear sexy evening dresses, a little bit revealing following the rule of two and choosing two of the following four: bodycon, low cut, short, or exposed midriff. Almost every woman will be wearing high heels. Hair can be up or down, and make up is natural and elegant. Jewellery is minimal.

What is allowed:
The allowed clothes are the full range of what will get you through the door.

Smart casual for men includes:
-blue or black jeans

-suit trousers

-khakis

-button-down shirts

-polos

-sweaters without hoods or graphics

-polished leather (or faux leather) brown or black shoes

-two piece suits

Smart casual for women includes:
-cocktail dresses

-little black dress

-lounge dresses

-blue jeans

-blouses

-suit style dresses

-two piece pant suits

-two piece skirt suits

-delicate heels ranging 1-4" high

-ballet flats

What is a grey area:
The grey area are clothes that might be allowed some days/events and not others, or that are at the discretion of door staff. In short, if you happen to be in the area, wearing these clothes and want to check the club out, then maybe see if you can. You might get lucky. But if you are actually planning a night here? Avoid these and go for something closer to the dress code.

Light blue jeans and coloured jeans are a grey area. Although in principle they are allowed, in reality they can be a bit awkward and not many people can pull them off well enough to gain entry.

Black tie looks (tuxedos, three piece suits) are a grey area. If you can pull them off in a sort of nonchalant way, then maybe they are a great idea. But if you look a bit overdressed and stuffy, you might be turned away.

What is forbidden:
These clothes will get you turned away at the door, even if you are on the guest list, have a table with bottle service reserved, and it's your birthday. Sorry.

No t-shirts. Absolutely no t-shirts, long sleeve plain shirts, or short sleeve button down shirts.

No hats. No hats indoors. Check them in with your coat at the cloakroom.

No fancy dress or alternative looks. Stick to classic and trendy looks.

No sportswear. No trainers, tracksuits, hiking boots, shorts, or anything else that is more sporty than elegant.
