Another one of the h.wood group's iconic range of clubs, the Peppermint Club is one of the best places to go out in LA for a night out. Opened in early 2017, this club offers a cosy, grounded alternative to the sky high rooftop clubs that were more popular a few years ago.
The decor is a cross between old school Hollywood glamour and a fun and edgy 1920s speakeasy, with a gentle glow of amber lighting and reflective bronze and marble surfaces everywhere. Owners John Terzian and John Janick worked hard to create an ambiance that was perfectly suited to music and comfort, and that's still going strong today.
The Peppermint Nightclub is known first and foremost for its live music scene. The circle-inspired layout of the main floor places a huge stage at the back and centre of the room by the exit, with wrap around booths facing it, and a bar at the far side. You can sit in the centre lounge area to focus entirely on the music, at the bar to drink and people watch, in the bar lounge for a more intimate setting, or move to the North or South lounge for a little bit of everything. There is also plenty of room around the stage and lounges for dancing and socializing.
The music itself is incredibly varied. On DJ-only nights you can expect 70s, jazz, electronica, techno, or hip hop. On live music nights the DJ will generally play music to complement the artists on the stage, as a sort of opening and closing act to them.
The details in the decor give it a sort of Victorian study edge to it, with old photographs, globes, and small ornaments creating a sensation of timeless charm and sophistication, and the gentle lighting replicating the fire that would burn in the cosy studies and libraries it seeks to emulate. Mixed in are some curious modern art installations and wall pieces, bringing the whole thing together.
The drinks available at The Peppermint Club LA are a perfect accompaniment for a night of live music and socializing. Adam Koral's selection of light bites and cocktails will keep you fuelled all night long, and the mixes are strong enough to give you a proper buzz, even though the cost is about the same as at other clubs in the area. That said, if you're looking for a proper meal to go with your night of partying, you may want to consider a club with a full menu, such as the Doheny Room , or the Hyde Sunset Club.
The Peppermint Club does not offer any outdoor facilities, and that includes smoking areas and parking. However there is plenty of room to park on the street outside, they provide a moderately priced valet service if you prefer it, and there are parking options a little further away if you don't mind a brief walk. Otherwise, a taxi is strongly recommended.
The dress code at this fun LA nightclub, like the general attitude, is pretty relaxed. Just make sure to look presentable and have a reservation and you should get in.
