The Argyle Club in LA is a hybrid between a nightclub and a traditional cocktail bar. If you want to be well and truly spoilt by your nightclub, this is the place to go. From the moment you walk through the door until you step back outside you will be transported to a world where you are a 1920s fat cat in your own mansion, with all the luxury to spare.
Outside it may not seem like much. Inside it looks warm and inviting. Walking in you see two enormous mirrored doors, almost asking you to pick one, like you are in Alice in Wonderland. Pick the left one and you go up. Upstairs you will find the nightclub, with a large dance floor and bottle service booths. The warm lighting, snakeskin booths, and enormous black chandelier
If you decide to go VIP, you can expect another level of sophistication. There is a split seating area, one below and one up a few steps. The seating is comfortable, the booths are very intimate, and the attention from staff is perfect.
Choose the right mirrored door and you stay downstairs. Downstairs you will find the cocktail den and an outdoor bar. This is a quiet, relaxed setting compared to upstairs and you will head down a flight of stairs into the cocktail den, with a small, cosy seating area, an bookcase full of books and antiques, and the warm lighting of a fake fire. The setting will leave you feeling as though you have retired from a grand 1920s party into a quiet little study or library.
The music is booming and leans very heavily towards hip hop, so if you want to dance and let loose it is perfect. The DJ keeps the party going solid, nicely pacing the tracks so you can get a few drinks in before you hit the dance floor again.
If you are looking for some of the best drinks in LA, they are here. The Argyle's cocktail bar is some kind of magical alchemy, where even as you see everything going in, you can't make sense of how delicious it all ends up being. The drinks are really reasonably priced for the level of artistry involved, and you will probably end up finding a favourite in no time.
If you get a bit peckish there are some small dishes on offer. Perfect if you have been dancing a long time and need to retire to build your energy up or sober up a little before hitting the dance floor at the end of the night.
To get into the Argyle nightclub you need to be dressed right. You will not get in if you are wearing sportswear, too little, or look dirty or cheap. For women a cocktail dress, mini-dress, or miniskirt and a nice top will work along with heels. For men smart jeans and a polo or a very neat t-shirt are ideal, combined with smart shoes.
