The Vida nightclub in Stockholm is a wonderful, intimate little venue tucked away unassumingly into the side of the building, with a delicate floral boundary around the main door and its soft green leafy logo on the window outside. Walking by, you could be forgiven for thinking this exotic little club was some sort of a spa, or a trendy cafe, but it is in fact one of Stockholm's most exclusive nightclubs and lounges.
If you are looking for a great club in or near Ingmar Bergmans, this is great place to start. The elegance of the decor will leave you feeling like you are pure royalty, with plush velvet seating, glossy marble surfaces, and lovely soft lighting that is reflected off the art deco style mirrors, to make the room seem bigger and warmer. Inside the main lounge there is a small dance floor, paired with wonderful warm red lighting and some comfortable booths for you to sit back and people watch if you like to.
Like most Swedish nightclubs, it opens a little bit late for British or American club goers, but closes probably a bit too early for the standard European audience. The best atmosphere is around twelve or one, when the venue is finally packed, but not so much that nobody else can get in for the night. The music is modern and a bit preppy, but very fun to dance to.
The age limit at the Vida club is 23, so expect to be asked for your ID. This is very much a Swedish club that caters mostly to the locals, so the staff may not be comfortable speaking English. It is probably better to visit with someone local, or who speaks Swedish, to help you get in and get your drinks. Make sure to bring valid ID that is simple and easy to read, as the bouncers may not speak English, let alone any other languages. A passport is by far the best option.
Vida does not advertise its dress code very overtly, and it seems pretty relaxed about who gets in and who does not. However, as always, exercise some caution, as they do advertise themselves as an upscale venue. Men ought to wear at least a crisp shirt and leather shoes, and women ought to choose a cocktail dress and high heels.
They do sometimes run short term free entry promotions, especially for young women, but these promotions are intermittent and based on many factors, from the time of year, to the event they are hosting, to the number of reservations they already have. There is no guarantee you will get free entry any given night, even if you got in for free the night before. Besides that, you should expect to pay for the cloak room, as this is a fairly intimate venue and big winter coats and heavy bags are discouraged. The best option is to get on the guest list and preferably make a reservation, to make sure that you get in on the night.
