Monastrell is one of Alicante's most prestigious fine-dining restaurants, led by renowned chef María José San Román. The restaurant opened in 1996 and was one of the first high-end culinary destinations in Alicante, helping establish the city as a serious gastronomic destination. San Román's cooking is strongly influenced by the Mediterranean, with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients, local produce, seafood, vegetables and traditional Alicante flavors reinterpreted through contemporary techniques.
The restaurant is located inside a historic building at Alicante's port, giving it an elegant and distinctive setting. Monastrell occupies three floors and includes several separate spaces, including El Claustro, El Mirador, La Cámara Real and El Cielo de Alicante. Some of these spaces can be used for private events and celebrations, making the restaurant suitable not only for intimate fine dining but also for upscale group experiences.
The culinary experience focuses on tasting menus, with dishes designed around the story of the Mediterranean and the best seasonal products. Many of the vegetables and fresh ingredients come from the restaurant group's own Terramón garden, which follows regenerative and sustainable growing practices. Guests can also complement the menus with wine pairings from the restaurant's curated cellar.
