The decor inside the Valenok focuses on wooden features, from the feature wall of cut logs to the wooden tables and barrels. What isn't wooden is softly glowing in amber, brown, or green, really boosting the general theme of nature and the forest. The lighting is soft and warm, and the huge windows let in plenty of daylight during the earlier hours as you begin to settle in for the night.
This relaxed Moscow nightclub is very much a Russian venue. Although the staff speak some English, the menu and blackboards will all be in Russian only, and some members of staff may struggle to understand you. Make sure to come with someone who speaks Russian if you want to definitely get in, even if you have a reservation. Otherwise it may be difficult if the bouncer for the night does not speak English.
What is more, knowing a bit of Russian may help you to get lower prices, as they seem to offer friendly discounts to locals and to tourists who make a bit of an effort to fit in. Sexy young women sometimes get a discount or a free drink too. That said, the prices are pretty low anyway, so even if you do not speak any Russian, you will be able to have great drinks at great prices here.
Likewise, make sure to bring some ID with you, ideally a passport or a driver's license, so it's easy for the staff to identify. They may not be familiar with other forms of ID and reserve the right to turn you away if they believe that your ID may be falsified.
The crowd at the Valenok is mostly Russian, and definitely rather posh. Which means that even if the staff do not understand you too well, the guests will definitely speak good English and be happy to mingle and make friends.
This Moscow nightclub is open much of the day as a restaurant, serving traditional Russian dishes for the locals. So if you want to taste some great Russian food, stop by earlier, or during the week. However from midnight it transforms into a cosy, sexy Moscow lounge, with great drinks and an even better atmosphere.
Like many Moscow nightclubs, the Valenok club opens until the early hours of the morning. If you want to be there for when the atmosphere actually gets going, you need to stay until around one or two in the morning. But don't try showing up then, as it will be absolutely packed. It's better to show up around midnight and settle in as the venue starts getting busy.
Because of how busy it can get, if you want to be guaranteed to get in you need to make sure to get on the guest list and reserve a table. This is especially true at the weekend.
