Tao Chicago in Chicago 19 Apr 2024
Opening in September! The co-founder of TAO, the glitzy over-the-top pan-Asian chain of restaurants and nightclubs, plans to open his Chicago location in September after 15 years of searching around town for a suitable venue. Rich Wolf and his partners opened the first TAO in 2000 in uptown New York and Wolf said they’ve always held high standards for their food. While celebrities and big spenders frequent the locations in New York , Las Vegas and Los Angeles , Wolf believes their sushi and steaks are what keeps customers returning. Youngsters may prefer to hang out all night at the nightclub portion, which the Chicago space devotes 7,000 square feet to. TAO also draws corporate customers, and the decor, including 16-foot tall Buddha statues, attracts hipsters. Wolf said the venue has even been popular for parents who dine while their newborns sleep through dinner. And when those children grow up, mommy and daddy may elect to throw a sweet sixteen party at the restaurant. He wants the food to get as much attention as the nightlife aspect, making the place a clubstaurant.

Tunnel in Chicago 19 Apr 2024

Nestled above Tree House in River North, the club is on the third floor and its entrance is built like an underground tunnel, putting on a mystical appeal to the nightlife attraction. The nondescript entrance on Kinzie Street is nestled between two adjacent buildings and opens to a hidden staircase inspired by London’s infamous urban tunnels. Blending the allure of a high-energy nightlife experience with VIP treatment, Tunnel aims to transform its [4,898 sq ft] venue into an immersive party experience with color changing LED lights hanging from the ceiling and a state-of-the-art lighting system synchronised with a Martin Audio sound system and twelve-panel video wall for an unrivalled audio-visual experience. The club provides an unparalleled nightlife experience for guests looking to enjoy premier table service or dance the night away to their favorite guest and celebrity DJs. The club also has a grand dance floor and several lounges to choose from.

The club opened its doors in 2015 and was Samantha Sanchez’s creation. Her aim was to have a dynamic, yet affordable, nightclub with an air of luxury preserved. The intimate space designed by distinguished interior designer, Rocco Laudizio, is an exclusive cocktail lounge that portrays a contemporary mural created by emerging Chicago artist David Bozic.

At Tunnel Chicago, everyone deserves a refined clubbing experience that doesn’t break the bank. For those of you who like to snack while partying, Tunnel Chicago also has several food options along with an extensive liquor menu. The sound system – provided by Martin Audio – is top-notch and elevates the lively atmosphere of the club. On Thursdays it’s Reggaetón, on Fridays and Saturdays it’s open format with a mix of everything and on Sundays it’s Latin based with a mix of EDM and Hip Hop. The club plays pop and EDM every weekend and has an alternating lineup of DJs.

WELCOME TO CHICAGO

Chicago has mastered the nitty gritty of club life, with all the R&B and urban twists you could wish for, but a wonderful smoothness that makes the scene just a bit more appealing to a more refined audience. There are countless music clubs and concert venues, which all have their own unique twists in terms of the style of the building, the shows at the venue, the music being played, and the food and drinks being served.

Far from the trends we are seeing in London or New York clubs, of themed clubs, the ideas behind Chicago clubs seem to be less intentionally constructed and more just a medley of unique aspects that come together to create an environment. Whereas a jungle themed club might have more "wild" tunes, exotic dancers in caveman costumes, tropical cocktails, and waitresses in animal print, a Chicago club with a jungle décor might play modern jazz, have cabaret acts, and serve modern twists on older cocktails. The idea is to be unique, rather than to stick to the one idea.

Chicago is also unique for the fresh mix of indie musical styles present in its live performances. Known as a hub of creativity and edgy new music to musicians of all genres, you can see some amazing live acts every night throughout the city. Whether you're into R&B, rock, electronic genres, hip hop, or any medley of fresh modern tunes, you will find what you need right here.

But Chicago clubs and live shows aren't just about the music! The club scene in this vibrant city also features performance artists, comedy acts, poetry and literature clubs, dance shows, etc. You will find a place to have a great time whatever your personal interests are. There are even places with karaoke and open mix nights, for those who want to be part of the show.

All in all, the flavour of Chicago is eclectic. There is a diverse array of venues to hit, and you could visit this vibrant city one weekend a month for the rest of your life and never see all it has to offer. There is always something new and fresh for you to enjoy!
